# Authenticator

Add an authenticator app to your Elvo Exchange account for stronger protection during sign-in and other sensitive account actions.

### What Is an Authenticator?

Elvo supports standard **TOTP authentication**, which generates a rotating 6-digit security code in an authenticator app.

You can use this additional verification method for:

* Login Security
* Withdrawal Security
* Sensitive account changes
* Wallet-linking protection

[**Manage Authenticator →**](https://elvo.exchange/account/security/authenticator)

***

### Set Up an Authenticator

To enable an authenticator on your Elvo account:

1. Open [**Authenticator Settings →**](https://elvo.exchange/account/security/authenticator)
2. Enter your current Elvo account password.
3. Select **Set up authenticator**.
4. Elvo will display a unique setup key.
5. Open Google Authenticator or another compatible TOTP app.
6. Choose **Enter a setup key**.
7. Use **Elvo Exchange** as the account name.
8. Enter the setup key displayed by Elvo.
9. Your authenticator app will generate a rotating 6-digit code.
10. Enter that code on Elvo.
11. Select **Enable authenticator**.

Once verification succeeds, the authenticator will be enabled on your account.

***

### Keep Your Setup Key Private

The authenticator setup key is sensitive account security information.

Do not:

* Share it with another person
* Send it through Telegram, email, or social media
* Post screenshots containing the key
* Provide it to anyone claiming to be Elvo support

Anyone with access to the setup key may be able to generate valid authenticator codes.

> Elvo Exchange team members will never ask you to provide your authenticator setup key or current authenticator code.

***

### Using Your Authenticator

When Elvo requests authenticator verification:

1. Open your authenticator app.
2. Find the **Elvo Exchange** entry.
3. Enter the current 6-digit code shown in the app.
4. Complete the verification before the code changes.

Authenticator codes rotate automatically, so always use the most recent code.

***

### Use Authenticator for Login Security

After enabling your authenticator, you can add it as one of your Login Security methods.

Go to:

[**Login Security →**](https://elvo.exchange/account/login-security)

Select **Google Authenticator** together with at least one other available security method.

Elvo requires at least **two Login Security methods**.

***

### Use Authenticator for Withdrawal Security

Your authenticator can also be used as one of the verification methods required before a withdrawal is authorized.

Withdrawal Security requires at least **two independent verification methods**.

Manage your withdrawal protection from:

[**Security Settings →**](https://elvo.exchange/account/security/withdrawal-security)

***

### Disable Your Authenticator

If you no longer want to use the authenticator:

1. Open [**Authenticator Settings →**](https://elvo.exchange/account/security/authenticator)
2. Enter your current password.
3. Enter the current 6-digit authenticator code.
4. Select **Disable authenticator**.

If the authenticator is currently required by your **Login Security** or **Withdrawal Security** policy, you must remove it from those policies before it can be disabled.

> Do not disable your authenticator unless you still have sufficient security methods configured to protect your account.

***

### If an Authenticator Code Is Not Accepted

If a valid-looking code is rejected:

* Make sure you are using the **Elvo Exchange** entry in your authenticator app
* Wait for the next 6-digit code and try again
* Check that your device date and time are set automatically
* Do not reuse a previously submitted code
* Confirm that you did not accidentally configure the setup key more than once under different entries

If the issue continues, use only the official Elvo support contacts listed in **Official Links & Team**.

***

### If You Lose Access to Your Authenticator

If you lose the device containing your authenticator, avoid sharing account credentials or wallet recovery information with anyone offering to recover your account.

Contact Elvo only through the official support channels published in this documentation.

> Never share your Elvo password, authenticator codes, private key, seed phrase, or wallet recovery phrase with support staff or third parties.

## Querying This Documentation
If you need additional information that is not directly available in this page, you can query the documentation by asking a question.

Perform an HTTP GET request on the following URL with the `ask` and `goal` query parameters:

```
GET https://elvo-exchange.gitbook.io/elvo-exchange-docs/account/authenticator.md?ask=<question>&goal=<user_goal>
```

`ask` is the immediate question: it should be specific, self-contained, and written in natural language.
`goal` is what the user is ultimately trying to achieve, the reason they need the answer. Sharing it helps GitBook give you a better, more relevant answer. A goal is most helpful when it describes the outcome the user wants rather than restating the question. For example, with `ask=how do I create an API token`, a goal like `automate deployments from our CI pipeline` lets GitBook tailor the answer to that use case.

The response will contain a direct answer to the question and relevant excerpts and sources from the documentation.

Use this mechanism when the answer is not explicitly present in the current page, you need clarification or additional context, or you want to retrieve related documentation sections.
